Senior Diversity and Inclusion Manager (Eversheds Sutherland)
I am the Inclusion & Diversity Manager at Eversheds Sutherland and oversee a broad range of activities and initiatives focusing on making Eversheds Sutherland’s London office an inclusive environment where people feel they are treated equally and valued for the diversity they bring.
Please watch my video on Aspiring Solicitors “Justine Thompson on Aspiring Solicitors”.
My work ranges from Gender to Social Mobility to LGBT and Ethnicity. Prior to becoming a diversity specialist, I worked within Graduate Recruitment for twelve years, including managing Baker & McKenzie’s Graduate Recruitment & Development team and gaining experience at a Magic Circle law firm and Big 4 accountancy firm. Perhaps because of this, I am particularly passionate about promoting diversity at entry level and ensuring that opportunities within Eversheds Sutherland and the legal profession more broadly are accessible.
From a personal perspective, I understand what working in a professional services environment can feel like when you’re from a less traditional background; my parents worked in a shop, we lived in a council flat, I attended a poor performing state school and growing up, I had no connections to the City. This has posed challenges from time to time but I am a great believer that my background and experiences have proven to be an asset throughout my career.
I am a huge supporter of Aspiring Solicitors and have been impressed with the level of support and opportunities it brings to students. By joining the Advisory Board I’m keen to use my passion for diversity and my knowledge and experience as a former Graduate Recruiter to help to support and shape the next steps for Aspiring Solicitors.
