Samira Fernandes

I am currently a GDL student, having graduated from the University of York with a First Class BA in History. I am excited to begin my training contract in August 2018.

Before I went to university, I knew that I wanted to enter the legal profession. However, with no contacts within the industry or anyone to advise me, it was difficult to secure legal experience. Aspiring Solicitors has been an invaluable help, as through the organisation, I have had the opportunity to attend legal events and work experience. Both Gemma and Chris provided me with incredible application and interview advice which enabled me to be successful during my interview. I have gained so much confidence through the organisation and am proud to support it, as it is helping to shatter the notion that you must come from a particular background to enter the legal profession. For this reason, I am proud to have accepted a place onto the Aspiring Solicitors Junior Advisory Board. Through this platform, I hope to share my own views on diversity, including surrounding being a woman in Law.

I remember that when I first met Chris, he told me that Aspiring Solicitors provides students from any background with a range of contacts and this has proven to be more than true. I urge everyone to make the most of this network, because it could make the difference between whether or not you secure a training contract.
