Dominique Hibell

Trainee Solicitor Shoosmiths

Dominique HibellI recently graduated with a First Class Honours Law Degree from Keele University and commenced my Training Contract with Shoosmiths in 2016.

Being a first-generation lawyer, I had no previous connections to the legal profession and as a student at a Non-Russell Group University, I realised that I was at a disadvantage to other candidates.

This, along with the competitive nature of the legal profession, fuelled my determination to succeed and I sought ways in which I could improve my legal and non-legal work experience.

Upon discovering Aspiring Solicitors in 2014, I utilised the access, advice and opportunities provided by the organisation, attended open days at various law firms, participated in competitions and became the Aspiring Solicitor Campus Ambassador at my university. As a result, my confidence soared and in 2015, I was offered a Training Contract.

Over the summer I worked as a Paralegal and I am now currently studying on the Legal Practice Course. I am a Professional Ambassador for Aspiring Solicitors and love to share my experiences with students of a similar background to myself.

Having experienced the difficulties in entering this competitive and ever-changing profession, I am passionate about promoting the importance of diversity in the legal sphere and hope to assist in making a level playing field for the future generation of lawyers.

Aspiring Solicitors is a fantastic initiative that has really motivated me throughout my career so far and for this reason, I am delighted to have accepted a position on the Advisory Board. It is my goal to inspire and assist other students and to give back to the organisation that helped to change my life.
